    Pelaksanaan Hafazan dalam Program Ulul Albab Berdasarkan Jantina dan Kumpulan

    This article aims to review the implementation of the hafazan in the Ulul Albab program based on gender and the group. The implementation of the hafazan is reviewed from the aspect of time allocation and preparation of the student before performing the Quran recitation. This study involved 120 Form One students at MRS Gemencheh. In conducting this study, several Islamic Education teachers were involved as instructors and mentors for the Tahdhir, Murajaah and Tasmik sessions. A pilot study found that the whole item was at a high level of reliability above 0.8. The findings show that there is no significant difference and interaction effect of time allocation for students in performing the hafazan. Furthermore, the findings show that there is a significant difference in the time allocation of students in performing hafazan based on gender. For students preparation before performing the hafazan, there is no difference and significant interaction effects based on gender and group. Student preparation before performing the hafazan and time allocation is one of the factors that support student achievement

    Evidence in Support of Potential Applications of Lipid Peroxidation Products in Cancer Treatment

    Cancer cells generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) resulting frommitochondrial dysfunction, stimulation of oncogenes, abnormal metabolism, and aggravated inflammatory activities. Available evidence also suggests that cancer cells depend on intrinsic ROS level for proliferation and survival. Both physiological and pathophysiological roles have been ascribed to ROS which cause lipid peroxidation. In spite of their injurious effects, the ROS and the resulting lipid peroxidation products could be beneficial in cancer treatment. This reviewpresents research findings suggesting that ROS and the resulting lipid peroxidation products could be utilized to inhibit cancer growth or induce cancer cell death. It also underscores the potential of lipid peroxidation products to potentiate the antitumor effect of other anticancer agents.The review also highlights evidence demonstrating other potential applications of lipid peroxidation products in cancer treatment. These include the prospect of lipid peroxidation products as a diagnostic tool to predict the chances of cancer recurrence, to monitor treatment progress or how well cancer patients respond to therapy. Further and detailed research is required on how best to successfully, effectively, and selectively target cancer cells in humans using lipid peroxidation products.This may prove to be an important strategy to complement current treatment regimens for cancer patients

    A new technique to reduce overshoot in pneumatic positioning system

    This paper presents a new approach for improving the performance of the pneumatic positioning system by incorporating a nonlinear gain function with observer system. System identification technique has been employed to represent the pneumatic system, while a model predictive control (MPC) with the observer system has been employed as the main controller to control the positioning of the system. The nonlinear gain function has been incorporated with the control strategy to compensate nonlinearities and uncertainties inherent in the parameters of the system. Unconstrained and constrained cases of control signals have been considered in this study. Simulation based on Matlab/Simulink indicated a reduction in overshoot of the system response for both cases due to additional nonlinear gain function in the strategy. Furthermore, remarkable enhancement was observed in effectiveness of this function while incorporated in constrained case, when this new strategy successfully improved the transient response in the pneumatic positioning system

    Synthesis of aluminum chloride hexahydrate/polyvinyl alcohol catalyst for biodiesel production

    The replacement of traditional diesel fuels with an alternative energy source like biodiesel is an excellent choice to lessen the depletion of non-renewable energy source such as fossil fuels. For application of low-cost heterogeneous catalyst for generation of biodiesel, most of waste-based catalysts are derived from inexpensive CaO resources. In this research, heterogeneous catalyst aluminum chloride hexahydrate (AlCl36H2O)/PVA was synthesized from aluminum foil wastes supported by PVA. Transesterification was used to produce biodiesel from waste cooking oil (WCO). The effect of aluminum chloride hexahydrate (AlCl36H2O)/PVA catalyst towards the yield percentage of FAME was investigated using three different operating conditions. Parameters optimized in transesterification included methanol to oil ratio (6:1, 12:1 and 18:1), reaction temperature (55°, 60°, and 65°), and amount of catalyst (2 wt%, 5 wt%, and 8 wt%). The findings showed that the catalyst loading of 2 wt%, methanol to oil molar ratio of 6:1, and temperature of 55° yielded the highest biodiesel yield from WCO. This study proves that heterogeneous catalyst aluminum chloride hexahydrate (AlCl36H2O)/PVA can replace homogeneous catalysts and to simplify the manufacturing of biodiesel, especially in the separation phase

    Examination of Prefrontal Cortex Activity After EEG-Neurofeedback Stimulation in Overweight Cases

    Food intake regulation is considered the key to weight control and overweight prevention. The brain activity in PreFrontal Cortex (PFC) plays a role in food intake behaviors. Most of the previous studies were aimed to PFC stimulation in overweight cases to modify the food intake behaviors. The EEG-neurofeedback is one of  the brain stimulation techniques; therefore, this study aims to find the effect of  EEG-NF stimulation on PFC function by EEG features analysis. For the purpose of analysis, the theta\beta ratio was extracted from ten healthy overweight participators in this study. All participants were divided into two groups, experimental group and control group with two phase-terms, pre and post-stimulation phase. The experiments were run using EEG-NF device. The results in this study indicate that success of EEG-Neurofeedback in PFC stimulation of overweight cases may have an influence on changing the food intake behavior

    Regulatory Non-coding RNAs Network in Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

    Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) spectrum comprises simple steatosis and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) that can lead to fibrosis and cirrhosis. The patients usually have no history of excessive alcohol consumption and other etiologies that can cause fatty liver. Understanding of the pathophysiology of NAFLD has revealed that non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) play significant roles in modulating the disease susceptibility, pathogenesis and progression. Currently, the ncRNAs are grouped according to their sizes and their regulatory or housekeeping functions. Each of these ncRNAs has a wide range of involvement in the regulation of the genes and biological pathways. Here, we briefly review the current literature the regulatory ncRNAs in NAFLD pathogenesis and progression, mainly the microRNAs, long non-coding RNAs and circular RNAs. We also discuss the co-regulatory functions and interactions between these ncRNAs in modulating the disease pathogenesis. Elucidation of ncRNAs in NAFLD may facilitate the identification of early diagnostic biomarkers and development of therapeutic strategies for NAFLD

    Surface roughness optimization in end milling of stainless steel AISI 304 with uncoated WC-Co insert under magnetic field

    Chatter phenomenon is a major issue as it greatly affects the topography of machined parts. Due to the inconsistent character of chatter, it is extremely difficult to predict resultant surface roughness in a machining process, such as end milling. Also, recent studies have shown that chatter can be suitably damped using magnetic fields. This paper, thus, focuses on a novel approach of minimizing surface roughness in end milling of Mild (Low Carbon) Steel using uncoated WC-Co inserts under magnetic field from permanent magnets. In this experiment, Response Surface Methodology (RSM) approach using DESIGN EXPERT 6.0 (DOE) software was used to design the experiments. The experiments were performed under two different cutting conditions. The first one was cutting under normal conditions, while the other was cutting under the application of magnetic fields from two permanent magnets positioned on opposite sides of the cutter. Surface roughness was measured using Mitutoyo SURFTEST SV-500 profilometer. The subsequent analysis showed that surface roughness was significantly reduced (by as much as 67.21%) when machining was done under the influence of magnetic field. The experimental results were then used to develop a second order empirical mathematical model equation for surface roughness and validated to 95% confidence level by using ANOVA. Finally, desirability function approach was used to optimize the surface roughness within the limiting values attainable in end milling

    Anabaena azollae is an heterocyst Cyanophyceaean as symbiont of Azolla sp. Anabaena azollae is able to fix N2 from atmosphere and transform it into ammonium by its heterocyst cell. This research was conducted to study the influence of different concentration level of nitrogen to the dynamic of Anabaena azollae heterocyst cell. Research was conducted by observing heterocyst cell and variation nitrogen concentration in growing media in 21 days. In each sampling of Azolla sp., heterocyst observation was conducted for every 1000 cells in Anabaena azollae filament colonies. Result showed that media with 0 mg/L nitrogen has the highest number of heterocyst cell. In early observation, there was increasing of ammonium concentration in media 0 mg/L and 5 mg/L. Media without nitrogen addition has generated the highest number of heterocyst cell

    Differential Responses to Blood Pressure and Oxidative Stress in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Wistar-Kyoto Rats and Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats: Effects of Antioxidant (Honey) Treatment

    Oxidative stress is implicated in the pathogenesis and/or complications of hypertension and/or diabetes mellitus. A combination of these disorders increases the risk of developing cardiovascular events. This study investigated the effects of streptozotocin (60 mg/kg; ip)-induced diabetes on blood pressure, oxidative stress and effects of honey on these parameters in the kidneys of streptozotocin-induced diabetic Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) and spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). Diabetic WKY and SHR were randomized into four groups and received distilled water (0.5 mL) and honey (1.0 g/kg) orally once daily for three weeks. Control SHR had reduced malondialdehyde (MDA) and increased systolic blood pressure (SBP), catalase (CAT) activity, and total antioxidant status (TAS). SBP, activities of glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione reductase (GR) were elevated while TAS was reduced in diabetic WKY. In contrast, SBP, TAS, activities of GPx and GR were reduced in diabetic SHR. Antioxidant (honey) treatment further reduced SBP in diabetic SHR but not in diabetic WKY. It also increased TAS, GSH, reduced glutathione (GSH)/oxidized glutathione (GSSG) ratio, activities of GPx and GR in diabetic SHR. These data suggest that differences in types, severity, and complications of diseases as well as strains may influence responses to blood pressure and oxidative stress
